Konzoli Xbox 360 předcházela původní konzole Xbox. Na tuto první konzoli vyšlo stovky her a některé, které vycházely zároveň s prodejem Xbox 360, pak byli na tuto novější konzoli předělány, ale co s těmi zbývající tituly? Z tohoto důvodu je tu tzv. zpětná kompatibilita, jenž vám umožní spustit hry pro původní Xbox. Seznam těchto her můžete vidět níže a obsahuje skutečně spoustu titulů, i když zde nějaké zajímavější kousky chybí. U spousty těchto her se vyskytují občasné problémy v grafice nebo delší načítací časy, ale to nic nemění na tom, že máte možnost zahrát si tyto klasické kousky. Seznam byl naposledy updatován v listopadu 2007 a od té doby žádné nové hry nepřibyli a asi ani nepřibudou.


Abyste tyto původní hry mohli hrát, tak musíte mít konzoli Xbox 360 s pevným diskem. Nemusíte kupovat přímo Premium či Elite verzi, ale stačí jej případně dokoupit zvlášť. Jako první musíte být připojeni k Xbox Live a samozřejmě mít účet. Pokud ještě nejste členy Xbox Live, tak použijte náš návod. Jakmile jste aktivně připojení k Xbox Live, tak vložte do mechaniky vaší konzole původní hru pro Xbox. Případně potvrďte aktualizaci (update) a jakmile je update dokončen, tak je vaše konzole schopna podporovat hry z původní konzole Xbox.

Na Xbox Live Marketplace si jistě někteří z vás všimli služby Xbox Originals. Tato služba vám za větší poplatek umožní stáhnout některou z her z původního Xboxu, která je lépe optimalizovaná pro Xbox 360 a má lepší podporu rozlišení. Tento větší poplatek činí 1200 MS kreditů, tedy asi 15 dolarů. Cena těchto Xbox Originals se pohybuje ve stejných kruzích jako cena originální dané hry pro původní Xbox. Ale není problém hru zakoupit za pár dolaru někde na aukcích (Aukro, eBay) nebo z druhé ruky (bazary atd.).
